Hana does it again for St. David’s Hospice Care
A couple of months ago one of our licensees, Hana Kubiszova from consulting civil and structural engineers Adept Consulting (UK) raised £137 through hosting a cake sale for St. David’s Hospice Care. This month Hana has pulled out all the stops and took part in the London Marathon to raise even more money for the charity that is so close to her heart.
Hana came 19,343rd out of 39,349 participants with a time of 4 hours and 25 minutes. She was one of only 5369 women to finished the race out of the 15,468 who entered.
With an average speed of 5.9 mph and fuelled by about 20 jelly babies given out by kind spectators Hana was immensely grateful to be able to participate in, enjoy and complete the marathon.
When asked about her experience running the London Marathon Hana commented, “I’ve probably underestimated the whole scale of fundraising, training and pulling it all off. But it all came together somehow and St. David’s hospice foundation thanked all runners (I think there were 7 of us) for the amount raised. This will cover well over 37 hours of specialist nursing care. So, that is something of an achievement and I’m glad I could help, never mind the blisters!”
St David’s Hospice Care is a charity providing palliative care to terminally ill people and their families in their own homes. Their work reaches across Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen, South and Mid Powys. They have a dedicated team who care for over 3,200 patients and families every year.
Back in her nursing days Hana worked for St. David’s Hospice Care, caring for patients in their homes and saw the comfort that these patients and their families took from the work that St David’s did.
