Basepoint Shoreham is currently undertaking the much-needed onerous task of removing ancient boilers (suitable for the QE 2!!) and the installation of new boilers all of which happen to be located on the roof, 5 storeys up! This included a telescopic crane been parked in a pedestrian walk way early on a Thursday morning.
All of this brings to mind, the importance of considering that when undertaking any refurbishment in an occupied building it always requires on site meetings to identify the challenges that lie ahead. A facilities manager needs to regularly review with a ‘Pre-Construction Check List’ which include:
1) Health & Safety requirements working in close proximity to people.
2) Communicating with operatives, staff and the general public where appropriate.
3) Access to the works area
4) Noise/ Vibration/ Dust/Nuisance
