Is this the Future of the Gig Economy? To Uber and beyond!

Gig economies like Uber and AirBnB are one of the fastest growing industries in our economy, providing greater flexibility for businesses and a glut of short-term, casual work. But, how will these economies be affected by recent landmark employment law cases which have judged that Uber taxi drivers and City Sprint cycle couriers are not self employed but actually workers and, as a result of those decisions, are now entitled to employment rights like holiday pay and minimum wage!

This Academy session will look at how the courts were persuaded, despite having clear contracts to the contrary, that the drivers of Uber taxis and cycle couriers of City Sprint were not self employed but, in fact, workers and look at the already established legal tests used to determine a person’s status.

The session will be run by our expert, Nicole Humphreys, Dispute Resolution & Employment Solicitor at ACUMEN BUSINESS LAW with an interactive session for questions.  As always there will be refreshments and an opportunity for networking.
