Basepoint Folkestone celebrates Harvest

Folkestone

Basepoint Folkestone celebrates the harvest season by collecting non-perishable food items for charity.

Over the past couple weeks, Basepoint Folkestone encouraged their licensee's to collect non-perishable food items to donate to people in need. The chosen charity is the 'Folkestone Rainbow Centre'.  The Rainbow Centre is a Christian charity that delivers a range of services in Shepway to provide support and hope to individuals and families experiencing deprivation or hardship.

During a coffee morning today, Basepoint Folkestone celebrated the succesful collection and presented it to Manda Wilson from the charity.  Manda Wilson explained how the donations will be distributed to help people in need:

• Shepway Foodbank – feeding families in crisis across Shepway.
• FoodStop – a mobile soup and sandwich service for the homeless and vulnerable in our community in Folkestone, going out 3 times a week every week of the year, no matter the weather.  They regularly have 20+ each day.
• Homeless Support Service – this is situated in the Rainbow Centre and is where homeless individuals can receive food, help and advice with housing and benefits etc, some health care and can wash their clothes as well as get a warm shower. They can also use the Rainbow Centre as a postal address which can be very useful.
• Folkestone Winter Shelter – (seasonally only) providing food and a warm bed for 13 homeless individuals during 12 weeks of winter each year.

Manda said 'The Rainbow Centre was started by a few local Christians over 30 years ago in response to local need and has grown ever since, much thanks to the generosity of lovely people like yourselves.  We know local need is growing, but so far together we are still managing to grow with the demand.  Last year alone, all the services above helped and supported over 2000 people.'
