UK’s first hometel opens doors for glimpse behind the scenes

The UK’s first hometel temporarily opened its doors to allow visitors the unique chance to see behind the scenes.

Lamington Group, which is opening room2 in Southampton in June, held a hard hat tour, giving guests a sneak peek at the layout of the building as construction nears conclusion.

Garnenne Interiors is leading on the construction of the hometel, which was designed by Project Orange, a Shoreditch-based architectural firm specialising in unique concepts. It’s being built within an old office building, which is being gutted and completely renovated to make way for the new ‘hometel’ concept.

”It was exciting to let people see inside room2 for the very first time. The construction project is well on-schedule and we are looking forward to welcoming people back when we open our doors in June.” said Robert Godwin, Founder and Managing Director, Lamington Group.

room2 Southampton welcomes Hotel du Vin  James Nichols to the role of General Manager, who boasts experience at HdV properties in Winchester, Bristol and Henley-on-Thames.
He was also part of the growth pipeline for high-end food and beverage business Caracoli, which has five sites across the south.

“To be in at the beginning of this journey is really exciting. The market is evolving and so are customers and the typical hotel guest. They are seeking somewhere with fewer rules – somewhere they feel at home without having their schedule and routine interrupted. The room2 concept is derived from these needs.” commented James Nichols.
