Grandmaster Sken comes to Basepoint Chepstow

Chepstow

On Wednesday 8th August we had the privilege of hosting Grandmaster Sken here at Basepoint Chepstow for our B2B Networking Event. He brought with him the British Muay Thai Champion: Niall Brow, and two assistants.

Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) is a pastime and lifestyle which combines martial arts and sport and is internationally popular. Also known as the ‘Art of Eight Limbs’ as feet, knees, hands and elbows are all used in attack and defense. With no set movements students are instead taught to develop rhythm, speed, mental agility and spatial awareness through sparring. Muay Thai is not just a fighting art it is a form of science that encompasses discipline, knowledge and respect.

Whilst here Grandmaster Sken and his assistants demonstrated some of the techniques and moves involved in Muay Thai and he talked to us about the importance of mental strength and agility within Muay Thai and how this mental strength can be used within everyday life and within a work environment.

We were also given a brief history of how GM Sken came to this country to teach. Having tragically lost his father at the age of eight, following which his mother suffered a nervous breakdown, GM Sken ended up leaving home to attend Pakhai Village school and stayed at a Buddhist Temple. Here he was introduced to the art of Muay Thai. An in-depth account of GM Sken’s journey can be found on the MSA (Master Sken Academy) website here.
