New homes provide work in Romsey for local businesses

Romsey

A development of new homes in Romsey is helping to support local businesses as it’s being built. The Kings Chase development, from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, is bringing 275 homes to the town. And as well as providing new homes for local people, the development is also supporting local businesses, who are reaping the benefits of the major project.

Among them is local firm Gildan, which has been based in Romsey since 1967. The company has been contracted to lead on brickwork for King’s Chase, a significant project that will generate work and revenue for the family business.

Mike Dance from the company said: “We’re thrilled to have been appointed for this project. We’ve always been a business that prides itself on giving work to local people – in fact it was one of the core values of the business when my father, Gilbert, founded the company. Many of our team who are working on Kings Chase live in Romsey or the surrounding villages.”

Jon Green, managing director of Barratt and David Wilson Homes, added: “It’s important for us to give back to the communities that we operate in and that includes local businesses. Where possible we always seek to appoint local contractors and Gildan is a great example of the kind of company we like to work with. Being a five-star housebuilder, quality is of the utmost importance to us and Gildan provides that in droves.”

Research has shown the significant impact Barratt and David Wilson Homes make on the local economy through its developments. Last year the housebuilders supported 1,400 jobs in the region and brought £9.6m in additional spending in shops and services by residents of its new homes.

It’s estimated that Kings Chase alone will support up to 825 jobs as it’s being built and homes sold.
