What's New

Southampton Marathon - 5 May 2019

Romsey

The date of next year’s ABP Southampton Marathon has been changed to ensure it continues to attract tens of thousands of entrants and spectators. Organisers have worked closely with Southampton City Council to secure a new date of Sunday 5 May, after it was announced that part of the M27 would be closed on the originally-planned date of 28 April.

The change of date is good news for runners too. It marks the first time the ABP Southampton Marathon hasn’t fallen on the same date as the London Marathon, meaning those who have the energy can do both.

“For many runners and their families, the ABP Southampton Marathon is an exciting highlight in their calendar every year. We’ve built a fantastic reputation over the last four years and in 2018 we attracted 10,000 runners and 30,000 spectators.

"We’re all very excited about next year’s event. It’ll mark our fifth consecutive year and we’re working hard to make it our biggest and best yet.”
Chris Rees, Race Director

“We’re immensely proud that the ABP Southampton Marathon brings thousands of runners and visitors from all over the UK to our great city. Not only does this amazing event get people active, create city pride and put Southampton on the map, but contributes over £1 million to the local economy every year. Events of this scale take a lot of planning, and I am pleased organisers have thought ahead – and early – to ensure the city can continue to maximise everything the ABP Southampton Marathon has to offer.”

Cllr Satvir Kaur, Cabinet Member for Homes and Culture, Southampton City Council

The ABP Southampton Marathon will feature a selection of distances again in 2019. There will be 10k, half marathon and full marathon options, as well as a one-mile fun run for children and families.
