Winchester

Whats on in and around Winchester this half term and Halloween.

Marwell Zoo are holding 'Boo at the Zoo' from 20th-28th October. Marwell Zoo is just a twenty minute drive from Basepoint Winchester and wizarding enthusiasts can be put through their paces to achieve their level 3 broomstick licence. Sessions last twenty minutes and are held on lawn in front of Marwell Hall. You can also join in throughout the day for some creepy story telling in the haunted hall and create your very own spellbinding wand. The Watercress Line in Alresford is holding a Wizarding Weekend on 27th and 28th October. Dress up as a Halloween spook and take unlimited rides on the Wizard Express steam train in the Harry Potter style coaches, one of which featured in the films. As well as riding on the line, there’s lots of scary family fun including meeting some familiar Harry Potter characters, walking over the famous Kings Cross footbridge from the Harry Potter films, getting close up to some hairy creepy crawlies, marveling at magic tricks, seeing hooting owls and large falcons and taking part in the fancy dress competition. https://www.watercressline.co.uk/product.php/34/wizard-weekend

Take a spooky guided tour of Winchester on 27th October and 31st October and experience a Halloween feast of ghosts and other ghastly goings-on for families and children. Prices are £6.50 per person and information can be found at the Winchester Tourism Information Centre.

The Hampshire Farmers Market takes place on Sunday 28th. Located on the High Street in Winchester, it is one of the largest farmers markets in the UK and has been featured on a Rick Stein food programme. Stroll around the huge range of stalls and sample some of the best produce that Hampshire has to offer. Winchester Farmers’ Market takes place on the second and final Sunday of each month with the addition of some Saturdays a year in Winchester Cathedral Close.

The Winchester Science Centre is holding a 'Fireworks & Fairgrounds' event from 19th October- 5th November. Children can get creative in the Invention Studio to create their own fairground rides using our recycled materials and electric components. Over October half term, they have an exciting, brand new type of family planetarium show that perfectly combines live theatre with the immersive 360˚ full dome visual experience.
