Tips to cope with fall time and winter weather

Havant

With days getting colder and darker, we all will need to prepare our minds and bodies to cope with those changes. Here are some top tips on how to do that.

  • Healthy eating and exercise could prevent illnesses associated with the winter months.
  • The regular consumption of fruit, vegetables, milk and yoghurt - dairy products contain protein, vitamins A and B12, and calcium - will help to boost your immune system.
  • Eating hearty breakfasts containing fibre and starchy foods like cereal will also keep illness at bay. Change 4 Life has some amazing easy recipes for just under a fiver. https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes
  • Regular exercise helps control your weight, boost your immune system, and is a good way to break the tension that can build if the family is constantly cooped up inside the house. No need of going to the gym, you can do short workouts at home and be more active during off days (cycling, family activities, walking). • To keep "winter tiredness" at bay, the NHS suggests getting "outdoors in natural daylight as much as possible" as well as counteracting stress with meditation.
  • Get a good night's sleep – go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.
  • Destress with exercise or meditation – stress has been shown to make you feel tired
