Chase the Pudding returns to Weymouth beach
Santas, elves and other festive characters will gather together on Weymouth beach this December to take part in the annual Chase the Pudding race.
Everybody is invited to come along and support this colourful festive event on Weymouth seafront starting at 11am on Sunday, December 16, with warm-up and `Santa Stretch’ from 10.45am.
The course is approximately 5km from the Weymouth Pavilion end of the beach to The Groyne at Greenhill and back again.
Event organisers were delighted with last year’s event and are aiming for yet another big turnout this year, raising lots of money for this popular local charity the Will Mackaness Trust.
The Will Mackaness Trust aims to give water sports opportunities to the youngsters of Weymouth and Portland.
Pam Govier, Will Mackaness Trust Director, said: “We are very excited to be hosting the fabulous Chase the Pudding event on Weymouth Beach.
“There is no more amazing site than watching hundreds of Santa’s and Elfs chasing a big bouncing Christmas Pudding along the beach.
“For me that is when Christmas really starts, at this event.”
Santas and supporters will be entertained in the Pavilion Ocean Room by Ed Hintze playing Christmas carols for when the runners register and return from the chase. Christmas stalls and a raffle will also be available.
Cllr Richard Kosior said: “The Chase the Pudding event is a brilliant spectacle and full of fun, clearly established as a festive favourite for Weymouth.”
Registration is from 9.30am in the Weymouth Pavilion Ocean Room followed by a warm up from 10.45am by fitness trainer Gina Hartley.
Competitors and spectators are welcome to use the pavilion bars and cafes for refreshments with lots of warming and delicious food and drink on offer.
This year’s Chase the Pudding will be started by Wessex FM breakfast presenter Carl Ashwin along with Weymouth & Portland Mayor Cllr Gill Taylor and stars from this year’s Pavilion Theatre Pantomime Dick Whittington.
Entry fees are £10 (£15 with Santa suit included). All race entries and event sponsorship will go to the Will Mackaness Trust.
Five minutes after the main event, under-14s will get a chance to join the Chase the Elf race, which will be half the length of the main race. Entry fees for this race will be £5.
