On your BIKE at Basepoint
Basepoint Swindon will be hosting a day of fun activities arranged with Swindon Travel Choices on Wednesday 14th August 2013. The day is intended to raise awareness of the benefits of active travel and support the Cycle to Work Scheme. The event will run from 10.30am – 3.30pm and is open to all to attend. There will be many suggestions and demonstrations on hand to help educate, inform and entertain
‘Dr Bike’ will be in residence – his surgery will be offering free servicing to bicycles. If your bicycle has spent a long time sat in the shed or leaning against the garden fence, why not dust it down for a quick and easy once-over? Dr Bike could help to get it back on the road and promises it will be painless!
As a treat for those who enjoy fresh fruit and a bit of fun, the exceptionally popular Smoothie Bike will be in residence. The static bike allows a little bit of pedal power to turn a blender, which in turn creates a quick health snack.
There will also be the opportunity to learn more about Swindon’s car club. Members can hire a car by the hour without the hassle and expense of buying a car, tax, petrol, MOT, insurance and servicing. There are currently four cars in Swindon available for club members, with one more becoming available in the autumn. These cars can also be used by local businesses as pool cars to either supplement their existing fleet or to reduce the costs associated with mileage claims.
Lyn Chapman, Basepoint, centre manager, commented: “We will have information about all sorts of initiatives and events which will help you make the most of all the travel opportunities in and around Swindon. There’s a world of cycling, walking and petrol-free fun on your doorstep so come along and find out all about it.”
