Jill Saville's Newest Challenge

Dartford

Jill is due to run the London Marathon on 28th April in the name of charity

Jill works for licensee Martin Ives & Co and is an avid runner. She's tackling the mammoth task of running 26.2 miles in order to fundraise for a fantastic charity - Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice

Her background and introduction to the sport is as follows:

"In 2015 I  made the decision to join Dartford Road Runners. I was at a turning point, needed a challenge, and wanted to meet new people.

Starting running at 56 was certainly going to be a challenge but now, as I'm approaching 60, I've decided to embrace it and test myself like I've never done before.

The first six months were tough and I hated it. There were tearful moments when I thought I couldn’t go on, but I kept at it. In July 2016, I ran my first 10k. I was so nervous, and it was only with the help of my friend (thanks Ann!) that I made it round. It felt like such an achievement when I finished, and at the time I honestly thought that 10k was far enough - I couldn’t have run another step. Never again, I said.

But lo and behold, I soon found myself signing up to do the Tonbridge Half Marathon. So there I was, just over a year since I started running, and out there again. I was over the moon just to finish it, and had a reasonable time to boot, thanks again to the encouragement from my
fellow runners. Never again, I said.

But, this year, I have completed 3 half marathons, knocked 10 minutes off my personal best, and will have run over 100 competitive miles.

So, somehow I now find myself facing my hardest running challenge to date - the London Marathon. I never thought I would be saying those words, but here we are.

Running has completely changed my life at a time when I needed it most. It has given me a new focus, restored and even increased my confidence, challenged me, and most importantly made me some lifelong friendships. Without the support (emotionally and physically), and encouragement from my DRR friends I would not be in such a positive, happy place. All of my running friends will be supporting me through this challenge especially Brian Borett who is going to run it with me and encourage me through the hardest moments when I ill definitely need it. Running is not only good exercise, it is good for the psyche.

Running this marathon is going to be tough, but the training is going to be even more gruelling and require a lot of effort and willpower.

This is why I am asking you for sponsorship. I have chosen to support Greenwich & Bexley Hospice, as they do such an amazing job in our local community. They give support and comfort when it is
most needed, and make the last days and hours of someone’s life more comfortable.

None of us know what’s round the corner or when we, or our loved ones, may need this wonderful care and support."

The staff and licensees at Basepoint Dartford wish Jill the best of luck with her upcoming challenge. We look forward to her triumphant return to work after the marathon with her brand new medal!
