Everything you need to know about the Weymouth bank holiday fireworks display

Weymouth

Weymouth is set for a colourful and explosive bank holiday after it was announced a fantastic fireworks display will light up the skies to celebrate the new Mayor.

The newly-formed Weymouth Town Council has announced a Mayor’s Celebration Firework Display in the bay on Sunday, May 26 over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

Fireworks over Weymouth Bay used to be a regular attraction in the resort during the summer but they were dropped by the former Weymouth and Portland Borough Council due to budget cuts.

The only council-organised display which survived was for the Bonfire Night celebrations on November 5.

The new display for the bank holiday will be a welcome addition.

Weymouth Town Council Clerk, Jane Biscombe said: “We are delighted to announce the hosting of a fabulous seafront firework display over the Bank Holiday weekend.

“The display will be hosted by the Weymouth Mayor and recognise the formation of the new Weymouth Town Council.”

The Spring Bank Holiday in Weymouth will be host to a number of great events locally including Fayre in the Square in Hope Square, Gig Racing in Weymouth Bay, Dorset Tour at Lodmoor Country Park, WWII Family Fun Day at Nothe Fort and US Memorial Day Service on Weymouth seafront.

Weymouth Town Council with partners Alexandra Gardens Pleasure Grounds are delighted to welcome back the £500 Firework competition at the seafront firework display on Sunday, May 26.

Entry details will be published on the Weymouth Town Council website with support from the Dorset Echo and Wessex FM.

The Danter funfair will be operating on Weymouth seafront through the Spring Bank Holiday on the Weymouth Pavilion Forecourt from Saturday May 25 to Sunday, June 2.

On May 26 the fairground will be offering a mayor’s celebration two for one fairground ticket (vouchers will be downloadable from the Weymouth Town Council and in the Dorset Echo on Saturday, May 25.
