A new Mercedes dealership is set to be built in Southampton

Southampton

WORK has begun on a new £4 million car dealership which is set to come to a Southampton industrial estate.

Mercedes-Benz Dealer Marshall Truck & Van will construct the development on the Nursling Industrial Estate - a stone’s throw away from the company’s 24-hour service centre.

The two-acre site will create nine new jobs and offer eight HGV lanes as well as five light commercial vehicle ramps to cater for a growing demand in the market.

The dealership is also being constructed because the team have outgrown their current site and the facility is due to open in October.

Daniel Stone, head of Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles at Marshall Motor Group, said: “The dealership has certainly been planned for five years and it is going to be fantastic. It is long overdue as we currently operate on a three lane workshop.

“It will be much bigger and the staff are really excited because we have lots of long-serving members and they do as great a job as people who work in workshops twice the size.”

The dealership bought the land for the new site three years ago and will offer tachometer testing facilities, which is not offered at the current site.

A tachometer is an instrument used to measure the rotation speed of a shaft or disk in vehicles and how far a vehicle has travelled. It is also used for trucks.

Daniel said: “Lots of truck operators come to our company having come out of the Southampton docks, so they leave their vehicles with us overnight and collect them the next morning. We have a very good relationship with our customers.”

He added: “The new dealership will also be managed by the branch manager Simon Jeffery, which will be a big job.”

Marshall Truck & Van represents the German company in Dorset, most of Hampshire and parts of south London selling Mercedes-Benz Trucks and Mercedes-Benz Vans products.

They offer FUSO Canter light trucks, from their headquarters in Fareham, including other branches in Southampton, Andover, Poole and Croydon.

The car dealer is also preparing to sell vans from Marshall’s Mercedes-Benz of Portsmouth passenger car outlet on the Portsmouth Motor Park.

Daniel also became head of the motor group before the new car dealership development was announced.

He said: “We already perform strongly within the fleet van segment, but given the strength and appeal of our product range there’s definitely potential to grow our business with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“I will be striving to ensure that we provide the efficient back-up which those who buy and run Mercedes-Benz trucks and vans are entitled to expect.
