THE PROS AND CONS OF CO-WORKING

A global trend in today’s business world, is the concept of sharing office space with other companies.   From New York to Seattle, Paris to Prague, Singapore to Shanghai, coworking spaces are a regular feature.  Preference hereto is given by small businesses, young entrepreneurs and freelancers.  There are many benefits and advantages to this, but it is not always the perfect solution.   To ensure it is the right fit for you, weigh up all circumstances.

Pros of coworking

Coworking is increasingly popular and can maybe be the best possible solution for many challenges of the modern workplace.

Maybe one of the most important features of coworking is the lower price compared to normal offices.   Good deals are to be had from property owners.  Taking into consideration all benefits included that can be had like, for instance, meeting rooms, receptions, inclusion of water, gas heating, kitchen facilities, waste collection, disabled access in accordance with DDA, just to name a few, is worth the effort of investigation whether this is for you.

Sizing of offices

If your group size grows, so can the office you acquire.   A traditional office can cause a great deal of hassle.   This does not create any hassle in coworking spaces whereas in private offices, where many spaces are on hand, it is designed with customization in mind.    Coworking spaces can be designed around you whether your team are 5 or 100.

Coworking offices allow you to start work immediately.   The inconvenience of moving furniture or setting up printers, wifi networking, etc., are tasks taken care of by the company you lease your coworking office from.

There is most likely someone around who can answer a question you battle with, even if it is not from your own company.

Cons of coworking

Coworking may not always be perfect for everyone.  Some factors that need to be considered are :

Privacy concerns

Coworking spaces are not conducive to high levels of privacy.  No matter what divider are used, chances are that conversations can be overheard.

Distractions

Not all people like to be distracted by conversations between other coworking clients.

Crowds and commotion

Depending on their situation, some coworking spaces can get very crowded during certain days or hours.

Conclusion

No real answer exists.   If your business is of a sensitive nature, this may not be for you.     But if your business is of a more general nature, this can be just what you were looking for.   Visit the space first and then make your decision.
