LAUNCH OF THE WELL BEING AT WORK EMPLOYER RECOGNITION SCHEME
Local organisations and businesses who have vowed to support staff health and wellbeing have been recognised by Southampton City Council for their commitment at a celebratory lunch in the Mayor’s Parlour on 10 December. During the Celebration each of the 10 vanguard organisations who have signed up to the Wellbeing at Work scheme* shared what their commitment means for their organisation and staff.
SCC Chief Executive Sandy Hopkins and Chair of the Health & Wellbeing Board, Councillor Dave Shields presented them with a Certificate of Recognition. The recognition includes being awarded the Wellbeing@Work Employer badge to use on their websites and literature.
Every business that is part of the scheme is also a member of a city-wide Wellbeing network designed to support and develop their Wellbeing Champions to meet their Commitment goals and spread wellbeing within their organisation. Workplace wellbeing is a huge agenda, best achieved through consistently taking small steps in the right direction, by developing a working environment where people can flourish. The Southampton Wellbeing@Work Employer scheme aims to encourage and support any size of local organisation by asking them to focus and commit to just one clear measurable action in each of three aspects of organisational and staff wellbeing – culture, leadership and relationships and individual health and wellbeing.
Caring about staff wellbeing and establishing a working environment where people can flourish is good for business. Organisations that commit to wellbeing attract and keep the best people and healthier staff means higher creativity, productivity and less sickness absence.
Funded by Public Health, Southampton Connect and the council, the Wellbeing@Work service provides online information and resources, a monthly eNewsletter and networking/development events to local managers and organisations as well as the Wellbeing@Work Employer scheme.
Cabinet Member for Healthier and Safer City, Councillor Dave Shields said: “It’s been fantastic to have the opportunity to recognise the commitment these businesses are making to the wellbeing of their staff. “I hope that many more organisations continue to pledge to sign up to the scheme in the future.”
