More Than 500 Take Part in Tour de Gwent

Chepstow

Just over 550 cyclists took to the roads in the spring sunshine to take part in a fundraising event in aid of St David’s Hospice Care, Basepoint Chepstow's nominated centre charity for 2016/17.

The third annual Tour de Gwent, the final event to be supported by Basepoint following the long association with St. David's Hospice Care, offered entrants five routes of varying lengths starting from the Caerleon RFC pavilion this morning.  The 78-mile Platinum route saw riders pass through parts of Newport, Pontypool and Monmouthshire with climbs totalling 6,765 feet.

For sportive and general cycling newcomers, the Gold, Silver, Bronze and Midi routes offered more manageable distances to ensure there was something for everyone.  When the cyclists returned to Caerleon, they were greeted by a ‘Finish Festival’ complete with food, entertainment and a free-half pint from sponsors, Tiny Rebel.
