Royal Wedding - Harry & Megan 19th May 2018

Exeter

So the Royal Wedding is upon us tomorrow! How is this affecting the British Economy?

Megan Markle's entrée into the royal family is expected to bring a huge boost to the British economy, this time to the tune of $1.4 billion (£1 billion).  That's according to a new estimation by Brand Finance, which calculated the expected profits from a surge in tourism, travel, restaurants, hotels, parties and celebrations, and the sales of T-shirts, hats, banners, and other commemorative merchandise related to the royal wedding.

According to the Office for National Statistics, Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton in April 2011 led to an increase of 350,000 visitors compared to the same month the year before and business valuation consultancy Brand Finance believe we’ll see a similar trend in May.

Harry is one of the most popular members of the royal family and Meghan’s status as a globally recognised actor means their wedding could eclipse that of older brother William.

All things considered, 2018 is set to be a banner year for the British royal family as they're expected to drum up more than $3.8 billion (£2.8 billion) for the country's economy, according to Brand Finance.
