Retro Culture - Business Showcase

Bournemouth

Bournemouth’s Basepoint tenant, Retro Culture Ltd, recently participated in what has been described as the UK’s ‘greatest and most inappropriate motorcycle race’ namely the Malle Mile event held in the beautiful grounds of Kevington Hall, Orpington.

This event provides a styled venue for participants to ‘run what you brung’ mostly older motorcycles, over four different race events divided over two days. Its certainly encouraged by the organisers to make it a whole weekend of racing, camping and fun.

The Malle Mile is one of those unique events that capitalises on older style entertainment that a whole family can enjoy. It affords like minded individuals an opportunity to race against each other in rather salubrious surroundings akin to the style of motorcycles being raced.

These types of outdoor events are becoming lifestyle leaders where the cost of getting involved is low, so affordable. You can see many events of a similar genre becoming very popular be it a Jazz festival, Country Game Fair, Vintage Motoring Event or Vintage Clothing market”. This is exactly the type of event Retro Culture enjoy getting involved in.

Since joining Basepoint, Retro Culture has concentrated on creating, developing and building two notable brands focused towards high-end motorcycle clothing, apparel and quality engineered motorcycle parts. The two brands are

* Legacy85 – that source and sell ‘Timeless Motorcycle Gear’ and
* Vickers Motorcycle Company that source, develop, manufacture and sell ‘Timeless Engineered Motorcycle Parts’

“I always loved the traditional classic and vintage styles of Motorcycles, Cars and Aircraft and wanted to develop our own niche brands that would offer customers an opportunity to indulge in the same style and era that perhaps they had enjoyed in the past but would like to re-live the same again” explains Mark Gordon, MD of Retro Culture.

“The whole retro/vintage/classic scene is definitely growing. Its certainly not just a fad followed by an older generation. I meet many younger people who absolutely love the older styles of clothing. They don’t want to be cloned by high street fashion! You can see many examples of where consumers are interested in high quality individual designed goods whether its from Vintage emporiums selling old style quality furniture, a resurgence in the restoration of classic style motorcycles and cars or consumer taste for high quality clothing etc. that are all industries being driven by a demand for an individual style”.

Retro Culture has plans to bring more new high end brands to market covering the same era albeit different industries so keep watching this space.
