Weymouth Ironman back in 2019

Weymouth

IRONMAN Weymouth is set to return in 2019, it has been announced. The event will take place on Sunday, September 22.

This year’s event attracted a record total of 2,750 athletes, including more than 60 relay teams, from all over the UK and the world. It also has the highest female participation rate and organisers say Ironman Weymouth is now the biggest and most popular middle-distance triathlon in the UK and Ireland.

The race includes a 1.2 mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run. Race director Alan Rose has previously said Weymouth is the ‘ideal destination’ for such a race, as it can double up as a family weekend getaway for athletes and supporters.

This year’s athletes battled tough conditions, and organisers were watching the weather carefully. But it went ahead as planned, with Mr Rose saying the race offered an ‘amazing experience’ that competitors will remember for a long time.
