Supporting business and helping charities. Award for manager of centre

BASEPOINT Swindon is one of the most industrious places in the town. Within its ‘walls’ are almost 100 companies employing around 400 people – and there are 28 other Basepoints doing a similar job for their own town around the Midlands and the south.

Lyn Chapman has been the manager of Swindon Basepoint for the last few years and been awarded the Business Person of the Month, an award sponsored by the Swindon Marriott and the Advertiser.
Lyn has been in the town for 35 years and started work with Lloyds Bank. She commneted that Swindon has been a great place for her since she moved here from Hayling Island.
She said: “I’ve always had a good job in Swindon and I’m proud of both the people and the town.”
Not only is Basepoint responsible for providing accommodation for small businesses, it also raises thousands of pounds for charities. Basepoint Business Centres, which specialise in the development and operation of flexible businesses, innovation and enterprise centres, is owned by the ACT Foundation, a leading UK grant-making charity, dedicated to improving the quality of life of those in need.
As such, each centre is dedicated to fundraising for a selected charity and The ACT Foundation match-funds any money raised for the chosen charity up to the value of £10,000 per centre.
Lyn said, “The MS Therapy Centre is our chosen charity and the charity’s Swindon centre receives around 100 people for therapies every week. Over the past year they provided 5,800 therapies to people with MS and other neurological conditions.
“Since Basepoints initial contribution in 2009, the MS centre has flourished brilliantly. We are now in our fourth year of partnership with the charity, so far having match funded more than £35,000 for them.
“On the other side, the economic climate and on-going credit squeeze for SMEs means that they need all the help they can get to ease the burden of the costs of running a small business.
“We offer a hand to businesses moving into centres with various deals. Supporting small business and encouraging them to grow is integral to our philosophy.”
Basepoint is open to all. But space is limited.
