Weymouth

People from Dorset and the south west are planning to spend more on their holidays this year, according to new research, with the UK being the number one destination.

The research by ABTA – The Travel Association found almost a quarter of people in the region are planning to spend more than they did in 2018, and almost one in ten expect to spend much more on their holidays this year.

The UK is the top destination of choice, with 66 per cent of people planning to take a staycation. When it comes to heading overseas, Europe tops the list of places to visit.

The travel industry supports 22,573 jobs in the south west, including staff at holiday companies and in retail (such as airport shops).

It is recommended that people book with an ABTA-approved travel company.
