WINCHESTER OPENING FOR ANTHROPOLOGIE

Winchester

US fashion and lifestyle brand Anthropologie has opened a new 6,000 sq ft store in Winchester. The move forms part of the brand's 'local store' strategy rollout.

Anthropologie currently has about 230 standalone stores worldwide, 13 in the UK, six of which are in London. The retailer announced in October this year that it would open five new stores for its smaller neighbourhood shop rollout over an eight-week period, the first of which was a boutique in Amsterdam and a second in Kingston.

After this Winchester opening, a fourth unit is expected to be launched in Oxford in the new year with a fifth location yet to be announced.

Colliers International’s retail team has let the former Jack Wills unit to Anthropologie on a ten-year term on behalf of the landlord, AXA, for £185,000 per annum.

"It's not all doom and gloom on the high street, as is demonstrated by Anthropologie’s latest store strategy," said Lloyd Entwistle, director in Colliers International's retail team.

"The brand has combined flagships in city centres, with online and a social offering, and this new local neighbourhood shop concept just adds to why retailers that provide a relevant customer experience, are those that are thriving.

"Jack Wills went into administration in the summer and through early discussions we were able to sign up a new quality tenant very quickly. Landlords have to be on the front foot to secure the best solutions for their properties whether it’s a quality retailer as in this case or an alternative use."

Anthropologie, which is part of URBN, was advised by McDivett.
