STANDING UP AFTER COVID

Andover

Take the first step

"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step"  Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the times and restrictions we are living in today, we have to keep our eyes on the horizon and take that first step.     What may seem like a never ending darkness, there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel.

One of the crucial success lessons is about standing up every time life bashes you around.   Maybe you are sick and tired of hearing about the light at the end of the tunnel. because the majority of people never get handouts in life;  for a lot its just a day-to-day dog fight that revolves around failures and small wins.   But there are success stories that should give us the energy and perseverance to get up and start over again.

As example we can look at the life of Jan Koum — the founder of Whatsapp

Born in Ukraine at a time when the country was behind the Iron curtain,  a household without running water.  Khoum experienced real famine and thought controls.   At the age of 16, his mother took him to the United States where they ended up in  a small apartment in Mountain View, California. They struggled on welfare and used food stamps to survive.

He was a troubled student in high-school and barely graduated.  Interested in computers and coding, he bought books from local stores, read them and return them when finished.  He had a lot of court restraining orders against him due to a civil harassment claim from an ex-girlfriend.

He was unemployed and aimless. During that time, he came to an idea that would let people see status updates on their phones. WhatsApp was incorporated on his birthday, February 24, in 2009.   Whatsapp grew astonishingly and was purchased by Facebook, where he previously applied for a position, but was rejected.  Jan Koum's net worth is $9.6 billion according to Forbes. And WhatsApp is widely spread across the world, helping people communicate with ease.

We look at Colonel Sanders of KFC Fame.    He was rejected 1009 times trying to get his chicken recipe on the market.   At the age of 66 years, his Kentucky Fried Chicken took off and we all know how successful that became!

In conclusion :  Success is not going to be handed out on a silver platter. It’s going to be difficult, challenging and exhausting beyond imagination.   There will be obstacles you never encountered before.   Persisting is the only way to make it big and not to quit until your vision is a reality.

If Jan Khoum and Colonel Sanders can do it, what will stop us to reach our reality if we push through our greatest fears to achieve the goals set by us.
